Sumerians Statues
Sumerian art showed the connection between people, gods, plants, and animals.  Since stone was rare, sculptures were usually made of clay, making the statues look soft and rounded, (sharp edges were hard to make using clay).  There were three different kinds of art work in Mesopotamia; ritual objects, objects of state, and personal art.  All types were made looking simple amd abstract; the style of that period.  There was also much repetition in the art at that time.  The picture to the left, the largest figures are gods and the smallest ones represent the less important people.
This art tells that the Sumerians wanted to acknowledge their relationship with the gods.  They also had a hierarchy of power, meaning that some of the people were more important than others.  They liked beauty, and they had pride in their accomplishments as a civilization.
